Songs Sometimes Hit Too Close to Home!

So, as I was listening to Nelly Furtado’s song, “Afraid”, I realized how close to home two of her songs have been this year for me…It is kinda crazy, but at the same time amazing and honest. The first song was “Say It Right” which is an absolutely amazing song with so much truth in it…and now with “Afraid”…wow.
I am one of those people that will dive into lyrics after a while, just so I can understand the meaning of the song (and not just the beat)…I am one of “those” people…hahaha…here are the lyrics for both songs….
Say it Right
In the day
In the night
Say it all
Say it right
You either got it
Or you don’t
You either stand or you fall
When your will is broken
When it slips from your hand
When there’s no time for joking
There’s a hole in the plan
Oh you don’t mean nothing at all to me
No you don’t mean nothing at all to me
Do you got what it takes to set me free
Oh you could mean everything to me
I can’t say that I’m not lost and at fault
I can’t say that I don’t love the light and the dark
I can’t say that I don’t know that I am alive
And all of what I feel I could show
You tonite you tonite
From my hands I could give you
Something that I made
From my mouth I could sing you another brick that I laid
From my body I could show you a place God knows
You should know the space is holy
Do you really want to go?
Afraid
What they say what they say what they say
You speak out all you feel is defiance
All you need is some self-reliance
Cause this world is gonna always try us
And all you wanted was to run for cover
Well here’s looking to yourself and no other
We’re all searching for that special something
And we keep on running
We all have the choice to take the lead or follow
I want to feel the light shine on me
You’re so afraid of what people might say
But that’s okay cause you’re only human
You’re so afraid of what people might say
But that’s okay you’ll soon get strong enough
You’re so afraid of what people might say
But that’s okay cause you’re only human
You’re so afraid of what people might say
You’re going to break
So please don’t do it
You wanna spread your wings but you’re not sure
Don’t wanna leave your comforts
Wanna find a cure
We’re afraid of who we see in the mirror
We wanna let go but it feels too pure
Who wants to be alone in this world
You look around and all you see is hurt
But the light it always finds us
If we move with a little trust
A diamond don’t define what shine is
I don’t need a Rolex to know what the time is
You got your let me find what mine is
I’m a survivor look how strong my mind is
I stand on my own it’s all me
Regardless of whatever they call me
I’m a leader not a follower
And I’d rather be paid and popular
Ride homie get your dollars up
We’re in the belly of the beast that already swallowed us
And, just for an update on the UTPA thing….I pulled my name on Wed when they were asking if I was still interested…The girls and school were (when I was visiting) and are amazing right now…BUT for me, I can’t leave just yet.
A Flashback

So when I was asked to come in and interview for the UTPA Head Women’s Vball position, I jumped at the opportunity to visit my alma mater and former living area. Then I thought to myself “Why”? But, in the long run, I ended up coming to South Texas. The funniest thing about yesterday was pulling into the parking lot of the place I stayed on my recruiting trip 10 years ago. CRAZY! The Embassy Suites, McAllen. Talk about funny flashbacks! And for anyone interested, I start the interviews tonight, over dinner. Who knew!
Everything is BIGGER in Texas…haha
So, I am off to Texas today. Yipee Ki yea..haha. Seriously, I am off to Texas today to go to UTPA for 2 days. And even though my “valley family” will be in Austin until tomorrow, it should be fun. Once I get back I will be running with my head cut off until Sept when the San Fran AVP stop is completed….good times right?
But here are a couple of pics that I found today that made me laugh…..especially since I had dinner with the golden girl last night and hopefully will see my fave hooka tonight! Hahaha…
Me & MMT in SPI YEARS AGO…oh, it was 30 degrees outside…one of my all time fave pics…
Me and Hooka in New Orleans…yes, I do have blond hair here….
How do you deal….
Do you ever wonder why things happen to you or around you? Well, that is kinda the way I have been feeling the last couple of days. Besides feeling completely lost and ready to scream everyday on my drive home…I am going to Texas to see my alma mater on Sat. to see if I would be interested in being the new Head Coach. CRAZY! And to top it off, we hired this new girl, at the AVP, WHO IS FRICKING COOL (Jen if you are reading this…hahaha…awesome)!
As Hoobastank sings in one of their songs (“Out of Control”)…I’m Spinning out of control, out of control”! AYE!
The rain is gone…
So, yes, two posts on one day…who knew right? This weekend was one of those weekends that you needed to have, but would not go
back and do it again. I had two amazing “thinking” sessions in the last 24 hours. First, was on my drive home from Vegas. Then, today, walking my babies, Blackie and Mocha. We had a mini rainstorm last night and this morning…and now, it is absolutely gorgeous outside. You can see from Catalina to Mt. Baldy…absolutely gorgeous. And even though there are a
few clouds left in the sky (even grey ones) I feel like everything is cleaner and more beautiful. I feel like this is how my emotions have been in the last few days…it was YUCK for a while, but looks ok right now (even though I saw something that made me feel those disgust feelings all over again). Or as the song says so well “I can see clearly now, the rain is gone…”!
"MVP Like Steve Nash"
So this weekend I was lucky enough to get a 4-day weekend so I could head to the “infamous” Vegas Invitiational. On top of that, the NBA All-Star Game was in Vegas at the same time…can we say CHAOS!
It was awesome to see some people I rarely get to see (Chap’s & Hooka…2 of my 5 fave girlfriends in the world), except at these national tourneys (my boys know who they are). But I will say, there were some VERY important people missing from the crazyiness (and you guys know who you are)! And on a side note about going out, I really didn’t get to see too many stars, except my friend’s friend who is in “Men in Trees” and I should have hung with my friend Gavin, and Mario Lopez on Sat night…BUT NO. I made a bad decision…hahaha.
I must say, it was cool to see Steve Nash at the NBA All Star buffet at the Palms on Sunday morning (thanks Kashi). All I keep singing is the line “…MVP Like Steve Nash” in the song “Promiscious Girl” by Nelly Furtado. I have never claimed to be sane, btw. I really couldn’t tell you what other players were there, but I know there were a bunch of current NBA players in the house. Hahaha.
Now it is on to more trips, bigger people, and seeing everyone at various locations! YEA!!! Oh, and I will not forget a camera this next time!!
"Gold & Silver er er er…"

So my Valentine’s present to myself was going to see the movie “Music & Lyrics”.
I have been waiting for this movie to come out for a while so it was awesome to see it on opening night! On top of that, being that Drew is my FAVE actress, you know I had to go support! And, even though Hugh is not one of my fave people, he sure knows how to pick some great romantic movies, with some amazing leading ladies! From Notting Hill to 2 Weeks Notice to Bridget Jones Diary (his character ain’t may fave, but the movie is amazing)…he has done VERY well in the romantic movie area!

The movie might not have been the most romantic movie I have ever seen (nothing can top Pride and Prejudice), but it made me realize the little things. Quirks can be a plus in someone. And HOW AMAZING IS HUGH AS A SINGER! I am going to buy the album on Itunes tonight! It is not grammy worthy…but it ain’t bad either! And “Pop”…wow they nailed the 80’s big hair pop thing perfectly! Hahahaha! So go see it if you can!!!
Ummmmmm….
Quotes From My Fave On Screen Heroine’s
So last night, after watching the final episode of Sex and the City on WGN and hearing one of my all time fave quotes about love I started thinking about a couple other quotes that I totally agree with and am looking for. Ironic that Valentine’s day is next week…but I promise that this has NOTHING to do with it :)!
Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City): “I’m looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love. And I don’t think that love is here in this expensive suite in this lovely hotel in Paris.”
Ever After: Danielle De Barbarac “Just breathe…” (this one is something I tell myself everyday)
“Prince Henry: And we, princess, are supposed to live happily ever after.
Danielle: Says who?
Prince Henry: You know, I don’t know.”
Pride & Prejudice (Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth)
“Mr. Darcy: How are you this evening, my dear?
Elizabeth Bennet: Very well. Only, I wish you would not call me “my dear.”
Mr. Darcy: Why?
Elizabeth Bennet: Because it’s what my father calls my mother whenever he’s cross about something.
Mr. Darcy: Well, what endearments am I allowed?
Elizabeth Bennet: Well, let me think…”Lizzie” for everyday, “my pearl” for Sundays, and “Goddess Divine,” but only on special occasions.
Mr. Darcy: And what am I to call you when I’m cross? “Mrs. Darcy?”
Elizabeth Bennet: No, you may only call me “Mrs. Darcy” when you are completely, perfectly and incandescently happy.
Mr. Darcy: And how are you this evening… Mrs. Darcy? Mrs. Darcy… Mrs. Darcy… Mrs. Darcy!
[kisses her]” (Fave quote series of all)
